'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear after the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess immediately slammed home the rebound before sprinting toward the crowd to mark the goal, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This capped an unbelievable comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the latter period. In the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator shouting out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a upcoming game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after the team changed shape. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are outstanding but even the basics and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without much intensity. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his dad, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I realized I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a minibus driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the next one to stop using the bus and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
