The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a prominent prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
